Happy Days
Two classes in one day, because apparently moderation is not my strong suit and my studio (EK's Art Barn) is pretty amazing when it comes to classes. First up was Christmas tree villages, tiny and charming and full of holiday promise. Then came these absolutely adorable little pinch-top owls, and honestly… I was done for. There’s something so joyful about a full day of making. Moving from one idea to the next, hands never quite clean, brain buzzing in the best way. The owls e

Out of my Comfort Zone - Pumpkin Edition
I found a template to make a pumpkin mug today and decided to give it a go. I added some fun little leaf sprigs and, feeling especially brave, stepped out of my comfort zone with a vine handle. Twists, curves, and a bit of trusting my hands to figure it out as I went. I already love this mug so much. Even in this early stage, it feels full of personality and charm. One of those pieces you just know is going to be a favorite. I can’t wait to see it glazed and finished. This o

Punkin Glee!
I am very happy to report that my cutie little pumpkin made it through the re-bisque with no further explosions! A true comeback story. I glazed him, fired him again, and held my breath the whole time. And y’all… he came out sooooo stinking cute. All those cracks and fixes and careful second chances turned into character instead of flaws. What once felt like a disaster now feels like a win I had to work for. Sometimes the pieces that give you the most trouble end up being th

Trying Something New
Learned a new technique today and, naturally, had to give it a shot right away. This technique was introduced to me by Tiffany at Hobble Creek Pottery on YouTube. The process starts by laying a stencil onto a very plastic greenware slab and rolling it in, pressing the design into the clay. Before removing the stencil, you paint the image with underglaze, letting the color settle into all those fresh lines and textures. I couldn’t resist experimenting, so I made this super hap

Nature, Rolled in
Another great technique from Tiffany at Hobble Creek Pottery on YouTube. She rolled bits of nature, flowers from her garden, directly into her clay. Leaves, textures, quiet little imprints from the outside world. I loved the idea instantly. So of course, I went outside, gathered a few small pieces of nature, brought them home, and rolled them right into this giant mug. I added an underglaze transfer too, layering pattern over texture, and honestly… I just love it so much. The

Underglaze Madness
There is some serious underglaze and wipe-back madness happening up in here tonight. Tables covered, tools everywhere, layers going on and coming right back off again. It’s messy, experimental, and exactly the kind of chaos I love. This stage always feels a little wild. Trusting the process, making bold choices, wiping them back, then doing it all over again. It never looks right while it’s happening, but somehow it always starts to make sense by the end. Clay, color, curiosi

Punkin Disaster Averted (hopefully)
Okay… I bisque-fixed him back together. Carefully. Gently. With equal parts hope and stubborn optimism. Now he’s drying again, waiting for a re-bisque and whatever fate decides next. If he survives this round, there will absolutely be glaze updates. If not, well… we tried. He’s not perfect anymore, maybe never was, but somehow I think he has a little more personality now. A bit more story in the cracks. Pottery has a funny way of teaching persistence. Sometimes things break.

Punkin Disaster
Oh no. Disaster. My cute little pumpkin exploded in the baby kiln, and his stem just… popped right off. I opened the kiln so excited and instead found this sad, cracked surprise waiting for me. I won’t lie, it hurt. I was so proud of this piece and so sure it was going to make it through just fine. But clay has a way of teaching lessons whether you ask for them or not. About moisture. About patience. About how even careful work can still go sideways sometimes. I’m trying to s

Down the Rabbit Hole
Because I have become just a little obsessed with using cookie cutters and texture rollers with clay, we made a decision today. A slightly unhinged but very exciting one. We invested in a 3D printer. Now I can make all the cookie cutters and rollers I want. Any shape, any size, any idea that pops into my head. Mountains, moons, trees, tiny scenes pressed into clay like little stories. The possibilities feel endless, and honestly, that’s part of the fun. Pottery keeps invitin

Punkin Time
Time for a fun class! Today I learned how to make a pretty good-sized pumpkin at EK Art Barn in Dallas, and I loved every minute of it. What an absolutely lovely little studio, warm and welcoming in all the best ways. The class was relaxed, creative, and full of good energy. There’s something special about learning alongside a group that’s all equally excited to be there, hands muddy and laughing through the process. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out after it’s finis

Making Room
The obsession continues. Today I rearranged the craft room to make more space for pottery pretties, shifting things around until it all fit just a little better. Shelves moved, tools reshuffled, clay claiming its territory. It’s funny how quickly a hobby starts asking for more room, not just physically, but mentally too. Pottery is clearly settling in, and honestly, I’m more than happy to make space for it. This room is starting to feel like it knows exactly what it’s for. Al

Wonky Wins
Today I picked up the pieces my friend and I made back in our class in May. They’re wonky and imperfect and honestly… so much fun. There’s something really freeing about seeing early work again, especially when it’s still full of charm. What I love most is being able to see the growth. Each piece holds a moment in time, a snapshot of where I was then compared to where I am now. Learning and practicing is starting to show, and that feels quietly rewarding. Progress doesn’t alw

My Favorite Mug
I am so in love with this silly little mug. It makes me smile every time I pick it up, moons and trees and a tent. There’s something deeply satisfying about sipping a good cup of coffee from a mug you made yourself, one that still carries the memory of muddy hands and careful choices and reflects so many things you love. It’s not perfect, and that’s part of the charm. It feels personal, a little magical, and exactly right. Turns out coffee tastes even better when it’s held by

The Baby Kiln
O.m. gosh. My love, Don Coleman, got me a baby kiln for an early birthday gift, and of course I am up way past my bedtime playing with it. Sleep was never really an option anyway. 😅 Y’all… look at this adorable little thing. Tiny, mighty, and full of possibility. There’s something incredibly empowering about being able to fire my own work at home, on my own timeline, with my own hands guiding the whole process from start to finish. Tonight feels like a big moment. A little

Time to Glaze
I picked up my second batch of bisque from the kiln at Daven's Ceramics today, which means it’s officially time to glaze. This stage feels especially creative and a little magical to me. Choosing which glaze to use, where to place it, how thick to apply it, and then wondering what it will all look like in the end — it’s equal parts intuition and trust. There’s so much possibility wrapped up in this part of the process. Every brushstroke feels like a quiet decision, every pie

An Obsession of Color
The glaze collection has officially begun, and I don’t imagine this will be anything less than a total obsession . There were sooooo many amazing glaze options at the ceramics store, it felt impossible to choose. Colors, textures, finishes… I wanted all of them. Naturally, I’m already excited to buy more. There’s something especially thrilling about this stage, imagining what each piece might become once fire gets involved. My first load of glazed items is ready to head to

Witch Hat Magic
I watched a tutorial today by Tiffany at Hobble Creek Pottery on YouTube about making witch hats, and of course I had to try my hand at it. From the very first pinch and curve, I could feel the magic settling in. And o.m.goodness… I am so in love with how this little piece turned out. It feels playful and mysterious and full of charm, like it has a story of its own already. One of those pieces that makes you pause and smile every time you look at it. I absolutely cannot wai

The First Mug
Today I picked up the final version of the very first mug I made, about five weeks ago. I didn’t get to glaze or decorate it myself, only choose a single glaze color and let the studio take it from there. And still… I love it. There’s something quietly special about holding that first piece, knowing where it started and how long it took to come back to me. At the same time, it made me even more excited to get back the pieces I’ve been making at home, the ones I do get to gla

Close Enough
I’ve been playing around with sculpting again. I’m not very good at it… but I’m also better than I thought I would be, which feels like a small win worth noticing. I can actually see this becoming something I really enjoy, even if it takes time to get there. It doesn’t really look like the inspiration piece, but it does look a little like it, and honestly? I’ll take that. 😅 Sometimes progress isn’t about nailing the vision. It’s about realizing you’re not as far away as you

Something from Nearly Nothing
I love working with clay. I love starting with a simple lump and turning it into so many pretty, fun things. There’s something endlessly satisfying about watching possibilities take shape under your hands. Today I learned how to make ghosts, and they are so cute. Little personalities appearing out of nowhere. I also made a camping mug filled with some of my favorite things — a tent, moonlight, a forest, and the sweetest little teacups tucked in for good measure. It still ama
